Smart Sermon by Pastor Ben Bienvenue
“TAKE YOUR PICK”
Jehovah-Jireh. “The Lord will provide” (Gen. 22:8). Our first need was a perfect sacrifice, and that God provided by giving His Son, the spotless Lamb of God, to bear our sins and sicknesses on that cruel tree on the hill of the Skull near Jerusalem.
Jehovah-Rapha. “The Lord that healeth” (Ex. 15:26).
Jehovah-Nissi. “The Lord our banner” (Ex. 17:8-15); The Lord who fights our battles for us when Satan would attack
Jehovah-Rapha. “The Lord that healeth” (Ex. 15:26). Jehovah-Nissi. “The Lord our banner” (Ex. 17:8-15); The Lord who fights our battles for us when Satan would attack us whether in soul or body.
Jehovah-Shalom. “The Lord, our peace” (Judg. 6:24). Only one who is in perfect health, physically as well as spiritually and mentally, can be kept in perfect peace; and Jesus offers Himself to us as peace for our triune beings, for “He is our peace” (Eph. 2:14).
Jehovah-Ra-ah. “The Lord our shepherd” (Ps. 23:1). The physical well-being of the sheep is the shepherd’s responsibility. He applies the healing balm from his horn of oil to the sores and bruises. So Jesus, the Good Shepherd, heals those who are His.
Jehovah-Tsidkenu. “The Lord our righteousness” (Jer. 23:6). Righteousness, or “rightness” for spirit, soul, and body, all three of which God teaches us to pray may be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jehovah-Shammah. “The Lord is present” (Ezek. 48:35). The same Jesus who healed all who were oppressed by the devil is with us today.
So when God came down from heaven to be king over the earth, He expressed Hisself to His subjects in seven compound redemptive Names.
Jehovah-jireh was His first Name. It means “God will provided for Himself a sacrifice.” The next compound redemptive Name is Jehovah-rapha, mean “I am the Lord that healeth thee.” And on He goes as Jehovah our banner, our peace, our shield, our righteousness. That’s what He is to us. So we can’t separate those Names. If He’s still Jehovah-jireh, He has to be Jehovah-rapha, also. If He’s our provided Sacrifice, He has to be our Healer also. So the Names are inseparable.
